Types of Visas

Child Visa

(Subclasses 101 and 802)

The Child Visa is a type of visa that allows dependent children of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia permanently. This visa is designed for children who are under the age of 18 and are dependent on their parent or legal guardian; or over 18 and under 25 and studying full time; or over 18 with a disability.

Dependent Child Visa

(Subclass 445)

This visa category enables a child of a visa-holding parent to travel to /remain in Australia on a temporary basis while their parent's permanent Partner visa application is being processed.

Employer Nomination Scheme Visa

(Subclass 186)

The 186 visa is a permanent visa option for skilled workers sponsored by an employer. To be eligible, applicants must be nominated by an employer and possess the skills and qualifications required for the nominated occupation on the relevant list of occupations, among other requirements.

Graduate Visa

(Subclass 485)

The Graduate Visa is a temporary visa that allows international students who have recently graduated from an Australian educational institution to work and live in Australia temporarily. To be eligible, applicants must have graduated from an Australian institution within the last six months and meet other requirements such as health and character requirements, English language proficiency, etc.

Medical Treatment Visa

(Subclass 602)

The Medical Treatment Visa is intended for individuals who require medical treatment in Australia or who wish to support a family member in need of medical treatment who holds this visa. Additionally, individuals who are donating an organ may also be eligible for this temporary visa, which allows them to travel to Australia or extend their stay in Australia for the duration of the treatment.

New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship (Temporary) Visa

(Subclass 461)

The Subclass 461 visa is a temporary visa designed for the family members of New Zealand citizens to live and work in Australia. It is not applicable if you are a New Zealand citizen. To be eligible, the applicant must be a family member of a New Zealand citizen who is living in Australia on a Special Category visa (subclass 444). The family member may be a spouse or de facto partner, dependent child, or other dependent family member.

Parent Visas

Parent visas are a type of visa that allows parents of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia. There are two main types of parent visas: Contributory Parent Visa (which requires a significant contribution to be made to the Australian Government and it is a faster option) and Non-Contributory Parent Visa (which does not require a financial contribution to the Australian Government, but the waiting period for processing can be much longer). And within these two main types, there are six Subclasses of Parent visas.

Partner Visas

(Subclasses 820/801 and 309/100)

A Partner Visa is a type of visa that allows the partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to live and work in Australia. The Partner Visa is designed to help couples stay together, whether they are married or in a de facto relationship. There are two stages: temporary visa (first stage) and permanent visa (second stage).

Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) Visa

(Subclass 191)

The Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) Visa is a type of visa that allows skilled workers and their eligible family members to live and work permanently in a designated regional area of Australia. This visa is designed for individuals who have lived and worked in a designated regional area of Australia as the holders of Subclass 491 or 494 visa for at least three years,  have met the other eligibility criteria and have complied with the conditions of that visa.

Prospective Marriage Visa

(Subclass 300)

The Prospective Marriage is a temporary visa designed for individuals who are engaged to an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. The 300 visa allows the visa holder to enter Australia and marry their partner within nine months of the visa grant date.

Resident Return Visas

(Subclasses 155 and 157)

A Resident Return Visa (RRV) is a type of visa that allows Australian permanent residents, former Australian permanent residents (whose last permanent visa was not cancelled) and some former Australian citizens to return to Australia after leaving the country. An RRV is necessary if you fall in one of the above category and your travel facility on your previous permanent visa has expired. There are 3 subclasses of RRV’s.

Skilled Employer-Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa

(Subclass 494)

This is a temporary visa designed to encourage skilled workers to live and work in designated regional areas of Australia. It requires sponsorship by an employer located in a designated regional area of Australia, and the occupation must be on the Regional Occupation List (ROL). Similar to Subclass 482 visa, it is designed to respond to labour market shortages in Australia but in a designated regional area.

Skilled Independent Visa

(Subclass 189)

The Skilled Independent Visa is a type of visa that allows skilled workers and their eligible family members to live and work in Australia as permanent residents.

Skilled Nominated Visa

(Subclass 190)

The Skilled Nominated Visa is a type of visa that allows skilled workers and their eligible family member to live and work in a particular Australian state or territory as permanent residents. This visa is designed for individuals who have the necessary qualifications, skills, and work experience to meet the specific skills requirements of the nominating state or territory government.

Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa

(Subclass 491)

The Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa is a type of visa that allows skilled workers and their eligible family members to live and work in designated regional areas of Australia for up to five years. This visa is designed for individuals who have the necessary qualifications, skills, and work experience to meet the specific skills requirements of the regional area.

Student Visa

(Subclass 500)

A student visa is a type of temporary visa that allows individuals who are at least 6 years old to study in Australia.

Student Guardian Visa

(Subclass 590)

The Subclass 590 visa is a temporary visa that allows the guardian or parent of an international student who is under 18 years of age to stay with them in Australia during their studies. The 590 visa allows the applicant to stay in Australia for the same period as the international student's visa or until the student turns 18 years of age, whichever is earlier. The visa holder is not permitted to work in Australia, but they may study for up to three months.

Temporary Skill Shortage Visa

(Subclass 482)

The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa is a type of visa that allows skilled workers to work in Australia for up to four years (depending on the occupation). This visa is designed to help fill the shortage of skilled workers in certain occupations in Australia.

Training Visa

(Subclass 407)

The Training Visa is a temporary visa that permits overseas individuals to participate in a workplace-based training program to enhance their skills related to their current job, area of tertiary study, field of expertise, or professional development training program in Australia.

Visitor Visas

A Visitor Visa is a type of temporary visa that allows you to visit Australia for tourism or business purposes for up to three, six, or 12 months. With a Visitor Visa, you can explore Australia's natural beauty, visit family or friends, attend conferences, trade fairs or seminars, and may be able to participate in short-term courses or training programs (depending on the stream).

Work and Holiday Visa

(Subclass 462)

The Working Holiday Visa allows individuals (aged 18 to 30) from eligible countries to holiday in Australia while also engaging in short-term work to supplement their travel funds for up to 12 months.

Working Holiday Visa

(Subclass 417)

This temporary visa allows individuals aged 18 to 30 (or 35 for some countries) who hold a passport from an eligible country to holiday and work in Australia for up to 12 months.
